The feeder motor is not working

Search Help Articles

This article relates to both v1 and v2 machines. To determine if you have a v1 or v2 machine, please read this article here.

The feeder motor is the motor which turns the carousel to stir the balls and feed them into the throwing wheels. To begin with, please ensure your interval setting is on 20 when testing this function. The most common cause for the feeder motor not working is the cable has detached from the motherboard. This can happen due to vibrations over time. Simply undo the 4 screws on your control panel and gently remove the control panel. You should find a two-wire (black and red) cable hanging from the feeder motor. Please make sure it is firmly connected to the motherboard on the connector shown below:

If this does not resolve the problem, then please follow these troubleshooting steps in the following order:

For V1 machines:

  • Changing the interval mode can often solve this problem. The interval mode can be changed by starting the machine by simultaneously holding down “Power” + “Right” until a new menu opens after approximately three seconds. By pushing the “Up” button, you can change between Interval Mode 1 and Interval Mode 2 and make your selection by pressing the “Menu” button.
  • Another solution to this problem may be to increase the interval setting.  There was a bug in software versions up to 3.5.2 (main) where this error would appear at intervals 5 – 8. This bug was corrected in 3.6.2 so a software update may be required. Temporarily though, you can avoid intervals 5 – 8 to keep their machine running without any errors. Upgrading the software to the latest version should be done by the distributor.

For V2 machines:

  • Empty the hopper and run the feed without any load on it, try pushing it slightly using your hand, does it run? If it does, try again with a load of 20-30 balls in the hopper. Does the motor fail to move under load? If that is the case please reach out to your local Spinfire distributor and replace the motor as shown here.
  • If the motor has no movement regardless of the load on it, turn the machine on while having access to the feeder motor plug on the rear of the control panel. Turn feed on and try to move the feeder motor wires. Does it run intermittently? If it does it means there is an issue with the contracts the wires inside the plug, try pushing the wires inside the plug to see if that fixes the issue.
  • If moving the wire in the above step does not make any difference or if pushing the wires inside the plug does not keep the motor on and it only works intermittently then reach out to your local Spinfire distributor and replace the motor as shown here.

If these steps fail to solve the problem with your feeder motor, we recommend contacting your local Spinfire distributor for further assistance.
