Selecting battery type (SLA or Lithium)

Search Help Articles

This article relates to the v2 machines only, released in October 2020.

If you have had a Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery and upgrade to a Lithium battery (with a new lithium battery charger), it is advisable that you change the setting in your machine as well. This will improve the performance of your machine to take advantage of the lithium battery and allow the battery bar indicator on your LCD to accurately show the battery capacity. This functionality is available in software version MAIN 5.1.7 and later.

To do this, simply turn your machine off and then turn it back on again by holding the POWER and HORIZONTAL buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. You should see a menu like this:

Press UP until you come to CUSTOM LOW:

Although you can adjust the 1150 (11.5 V) value by pressing the LEFT and RIGHT buttons, we recommend you leave it at 1150. See below more technical information if needed.

You can now enjoy your lithium battery.

MORE TECHNICAL INFORMATION (you do not need to read this unless you are a technical user):

In software versions MAIN 5.1.7 and later, we have added the ability to allow you to select between 4 different battery types. Sealed Lead Acid (SLA), Lithium 1, Lithium 2 and Custom.

These different options adjust the voltages at which the machine turns on the “low” battery LED and when it shuts off. Furthermore, it also adjusts the values for the four battery indicator bars on the LCD.

Full 75% 50% 25% Low Shut down
SLA > 12.1 V 12.1 V 11.8 V 11.5 V 11.2 V 10.8 V
Lithium 1 > 13.2 V 13.2 V 13.1 V 13.0 V 12.7 V 12.0 V
Lithium 2 > 13.0 V 13 V 12.9 V 12.8 V 12.5 V 11.5 V
Custom > 12.9 V 12.9 V 12.8 V 12.7 V 12.4 V 11.5 V*

* The 11.5 V value is customisable between 10 – 12 V, but the battery bar indicators will remain consistent.

We recommend using the CUSTOM option with the shut down value set to 11.5 V. By reducing this down to 11.4 V or further (can go to 10 V), you will increase the amount of play time you get with your machine before the machine will shut down (by only a few minutes). If you do adjust this down, it’s possible your battery’s management system (BMS) will take over the job of shutting down your machine rather than Spinfire’s software. This could result in your last settings being forgotten and it may also cause complications re-charging your machine depending on the quality of your charger (sometimes a lithium battery needs to be woken up if it’s depleted too far). We do not recommend setting your shut down value below 11.5 V unless you are an advanced user.
