If your external battery is not working, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. This guide assumes you’ve already tested an alternative power source, such as the AC adaptor, and confirmed that it is functioning properly.

  1. Check the master switch setting: For V1 machines, make sure the master switch located underneath the machine is set to position II for external battery use. If your machine has a black two-way switch instead, it likely hasn’t been configured to support external power. For V2 machines, the master switch is on the control panel and should be switched to EXTERNAL BATTERY / AC.
  2. Evaluate the battery condition: If your battery initially worked but has gradually provided less play time until now offering little to none, it is likely the battery has reached the end of its life. You should consider replacing it.To confirm, use a multimeter to check the voltage after a full charge:
    • Healthy battery: 12.7V or higher
    • Machine will not turn on below: 10.8V

External battery replacement is typically straightforward.

Our Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are covered under the machine’s 2-year warranty, while SLA batteries have a 6-month warranty.

    Battery specifications:

    • Voltage: 12V
    • Capacity: 18 or 20AH
    • Dimensions: 181.5mm (L) × 77mm (W) × 167mm (H)
    • Weight: Approx. 2.3 kg (LiFePO4) or 6–7 kg (SLA)
    • Terminal type: T3

These are common battery types and should be readily available from local suppliers.

  3. Check the fuse in the battery cable: Inspect the fuse located inside the external battery cable. To access it, remove the plastic fuse cap. Pliers may be needed as it can be tight. Shine a light to check if the internal filament is intact, or remove the fuse completely for inspection. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a 32V 15A mini-fuse, available at most auto or electronics stores. A spare fuse may also be found inside your external battery bag.
  4. Verify correct wiring: Ensure that the fuse-containing red wire is connected to the red (+) terminal of the battery. You may need to remove some electrical tape to inspect this. The terminal area should be marked with a red color and a ‘+’ symbol. The black wire should be connected to the black (–) terminal.
  5. Consider replacing the external battery cable: If the solder joints in the cable’s XLR connectors (male and female) are damaged, a new external battery cable should resolve the issue.

If none of the above steps resolves the problem, please contact your local Spinfire distributor to arrange an evaluation and repair of your machine.
